Meet Katie
I believe our homes hold memories, identities and relationships. The spaces we live in shape how we feel, how we function, and who we are becoming.
This is what drives my work. For more than twenty years I have been creating highly personal homes for clients and developers from my base in London, working throughout the UK and internationally.
My approach goes further than beautiful spaces. I am also a qualified Gestalt counsellor and have a longstanding interest in neuroaesthetics and wellbeing, which has deepened my understanding of the relationship between people, their environments and the emotional experience of home. Creating or renovating a home is often a significant life moment. I bring that understanding into every project.
I grew up in a family that renovated properties, on sites from an early age and involved in every stage of the process. Homes were never fixed things in my world. They were always in the process of becoming something. I trained at KLC School of Design, where I was awarded Creative Student of the Year, and before establishing Katie McCrum Studio I worked as a nurse and later as a BBC voice-over artist and radio broadcaster. That varied background shaped a practice that is both intuitive and grounded in how spaces actually work for people.
I remain closely involved throughout every project and value the relationships that develop along the way. I have also spent years teaching and mentoring aspiring designers, and I bring the same collaborative spirit to client work: helping people navigate complex projects with clarity, care and attention to detail.
“Katie is unusually skilled at listening to and interpreting her clients requirements, and she brings a clear and open steer to her projects.”

“Katie has been great to work with, she has brought her designers eye and attention to detail to all stages of our refurbishment project - from first ideas for redesigning the internal spaces to the final high quality finishes. She and her team have achieved a scheme which elegantly combines the modern and the traditional which is exactly what we were hoping.”
